New Easel – Some Day I’ll Have Time to Paint
I got a new easel from work for free. My friend Sean encouraged me to ask one of the buyers if I could take home an easel because he also got a free easel this way. There were originally two easels sitting in the warehouse, neglected and unsellable samples. While the leftover easel wasn’t exactly the type I would choose (we sell many different types), free is a very good price. It’s nice enough and quite functional. Just last night I used it for the first time. I projected and traced the outline of a Gustav Doré engraving. It shows Jesus bearing the cross and will be one of the artwork pieces used for Stations of the Cross at Ethnos Church. I traced the outline to get a quick layout but will fill in all the details and shading freehand, probably using charcoal, graphite and possibly some ink. There will several new pieces of “original” artwork (some reworkings of ancient art, others totally original) being made this year. I’m excited to see what the other artists come up with. Each year we try to make more art.
My friend Nate also recently gave me a nice metal field easel that folds up nicely, so now have no excuse not to paint and draw. Oh wait, my excuse is that I don’t have time.
I’ve been busy helping my church prepare for Stations of the Cross. Which by the way is this Friday and Saturday. You are welcome to come. It’s a free and no-pressure event. Basically, you just walk through at your own pace and see and hear the sights and sounds of the last hours of Jesus’ life. Get more info here.
Pretty soon I’m hoping to make some fairly basic abstract paintings of bold colors for wall decorations. I’ll write more about that later.
NICE! Hoping to make it to the Stations of the Cross again this year.
you should definitely make 2 copies of everything you make for your walls so that you can send me a copy. you know kind of like my inheritance or something…
